Setup guide: website integrations

1. Before you start

A Pro plan. The listings widget, resident button, ready-made buttons, QR codes and data feeds are part of RentMerchant Pro. Plain links and your free RentMerchant page work on every plan. Upgrade from Billing in your account.
A confirmed email address. Listings and widgets only load for verified accounts.
Access to edit your website. You need to be able to add a page element in your website builder. Some builders only allow custom code on their paid plans; the builder steps below say where.

2. Find your code

Sign in at app.rentmerchant.com.
Open Integrations in the menu (under Operations, or in the main menu in simple view).
Each section has a Copy code button. Your code already contains your own account name, so paste it exactly as copied.

In the examples on this page, your-name stands in for your account's name. Always copy your real code from the Integrations page rather than retyping these.

3. Add your rental listings

The widget shows the homes you list. Nothing is listed until you switch it on, one home at a time.

Open Listings (under Leasing). Every unit you have is there. A property without units shows a Create listing button.
Click Edit on a home and fill in bedrooms, bathrooms, square feet, monthly rent, deposit, the date it is available (leave it empty for "available now"), pets, and a description.
Upload up to 12 photos. The first photo is the cover; use the arrows to reorder. Location data is removed from every photo automatically.
Tick List this home publicly and click Save listing.

When a home is rented, click Unlist on the Listings page. It disappears from your website within five minutes, with no code to change.

Every listing also gets its own page with a photo gallery and an Apply for this home button. The application form opens with that home already selected, and applications land in your Applications tab.

Shows your listed homes as cards with a photo, rent, bedrooms, bathrooms and availability. Visitors click a card to open its listing page.

Option A: widget code (recommended)

Fits your page's width and grows to fit your listings. Paste it where the listings should appear:

Option B: iframe

For builders that do not allow scripts. It is a box of fixed height that scrolls:

If your builder allows a script next to it, use the auto-sizing version from the Integrations page instead. It adds one line that makes the box exactly as tall as your listings.

5. Floating resident button

Adds a Residents button to the bottom corner of every page. It opens a small menu: Resident Login, Pay Rent, Submit a Maintenance Request, Apply Now and Available Rentals (each shown only when it applies to your account). Paste it once, in the area of your builder that adds code to every page (usually called site-wide code, footer code or code injection):

If your builder has no site-wide code area, paste it on each page where you want the button.

6. Buttons and links

Buttons: in the Buttons section of Integrations, tick the buttons you want, pick a colour, check the preview, and copy the code. The buttons are plain styled links, so they work in any builder that accepts HTML, including email newsletters.

Links (every plan): copy any link into your site's navigation menu, footer, a social media profile, or your email signature. In most builders: open the menu editor, add a link item, and paste the address.

7. QR codes

In the QR codes section, click Download PNG under the code you want. Print it on a "For Rent" sign (use Available Rentals or Apply Now), a laundry-room notice (Pay Rent or Maintenance), or your move-in packet. Print it at least 2.5 cm (1 inch) wide and scan it with your own phone before you print a batch.

8. Step by step for your website builder

Builders change their menus from time to time. If a label below does not match exactly, look for the element called HTML, Embed or Code.

Wix

Listings or buttons: in the Editor, click Add Elements (+), then Embed Code, then Embed HTML. Choose Code, paste, and click Update. Drag the box to the size you want.
Resident button: go to your site's Settings, then Custom Code (under Advanced), click Add Custom Code, paste, choose All pages and Body, end. Wix only offers Custom Code on sites with a connected domain and a paid plan.
Publish your site.

Squarespace

Listings or buttons: edit the page, click an insert point, choose Code, paste, and make sure Display Source is off.
Resident button: open Settings, then Developer Tools (or Advanced), then Code Injection, and paste into Footer.
Scripts in Code blocks and Code Injection need a Squarespace plan that includes custom code. If the widget code does not run, use the iframe option instead.

WordPress

Listings or buttons: edit the page, click +, add a Custom HTML block, paste, and update the page.
Resident button: use your theme's footer code setting if it has one, or a header and footer code plugin (for example WPCode), and paste into the footer.
On WordPress.com (the hosted service), scripts only work on plans that allow plugins and custom code. On other plans, use the iframe option and the buttons.

GoDaddy Websites + Marketing

Edit your site, click Add Section, search for HTML, and add it.
Paste your code into the section's custom code box and click Done. The iframe option is the most reliable here.
For the resident button, look under your site's Settings for site-wide code. If your plan does not have it, add the buttons to your pages instead.

Weebly (Square Online classic)

Listings or buttons: drag an Embed Code element onto the page, click it, choose Edit Custom HTML, and paste.
Resident button: Settings, then SEO, then paste into Footer Code.

Webflow

Listings or buttons: drag a Code Embed element onto the page and paste.
Resident button: Site settings, then Custom code, and paste into Footer code. Publish.
Webflow requires a paid site plan for custom code.

A custom or hand-built site

Paste the widget code where the listings belong, and the resident button just before the closing </body> tag. Or use the JSON feeds to build your own design.

9. Options reference

10. For web developers: JSON feeds

Two public, read-only feeds carry the same data as the widgets. No key is needed, cross-origin requests are allowed, and responses are cached for five minutes.

Display text exactly as provided and link to url and apply_url rather than building your own application form. The full street address is only on the listing page, not in the feed. links.json returns your name, accent colour, and the resident links (key, label, url).

11. Troubleshooting

The widget area is blank.: Your builder may be stripping scripts; use the iframe option. Also check that your account is on Pro and your email is confirmed, and that the code was pasted in full.
It says no homes are available.: Open Listings in your account and make sure at least one home is ticked as listed. Changes appear within five minutes.
It looks fine in the editor but not on my live site.: Most builders only run scripts on the published site, not in the editor preview. Publish, then check the live address.
The iframe is cut off or has a scroll bar.: Use the auto-sizing version, or raise the height value in the iframe code.
The resident button does not appear.: It must be in a site-wide code area or on the page itself, and it only appears on the published site. If your account has no links to show, it stays hidden.
Something else?: Open Support in your account and tell us your website address and builder. We will take a look.

12. Security and privacy

Payments and sign-in always open on RentMerchant. A tenant never types a password or bank detail into your website.
The widgets only ever display RentMerchant links and photos, and are sealed off from the rest of your page's code and styles.
Only homes you list are public. Unlisting a home removes it everywhere at once.
Location data and other hidden information is removed from every photo you upload.
If an account is closed, suspended, or leaves Pro, its listings and widgets stop showing automatically.
